11 y.o. with mental illness

I have an 11 y.o. grandson with mental illness on both seroquel and luvox for 5 months now but is not being followed closely. He has not been seen by his psychiatrist for past 4 months and his progress is being monitored by a Marriage Counselor who sees his parents and him as often as 3x weekly and give that report to the psychiatrist. His parents are highly educated and very caring. His needs are well attended to but they are not medical people. He has quit school, home-schooled for a while but I don't think he'll be ready for the coming school year. CPA which I consulted suggested a second opinion preferably a psychiatrist from a Medical School. I would feel much better if he is seen for a 2nd opinion or perhaps confined to a hospital for a while. I don't think his parents are that amenable to so much interference from us for his care. We don't intend to but my wife and I are both retired physicians and we don't know what else to do. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. CM

Hello, The doctor who writes the prescriptions for the medications is the one responsible for monthly monitoring. Marriage counselors to my knowledge are not licensed to monitor medication.

Hello,

Thank you for writing. If you can provide the county/state in which your grandson resides, we will search for a qualified source who might be able to provide additional suggestions for you.

Hope to hear from you soon,
